Schon zur Grundausstattung des Museums gehörten zahlreiche Hinterglasbilder, darunter ein aus dem Verlegerhaus Lang stammender Kreuzweg als frühestes bekanntes hinter Glas gemaltes Werk aus Oberammergauer Hand.

1955 erwarb die Gemeinde Oberammergau zudem einen großen Teil der bedeutenden Hinterglasbilder-Sammlung des Murnauer Braumeisters Johann

No tours of the village on Saturdays at 2pm will be given from the beginning of May until the end of October 2022.

It is planned that tours of the Passion Play Theatre will be resumed from the end of November 2022 onwards. Please refer to our website nearer the time.
